Lumen Energy Platform
A monitoring and forecasting platform for distributed solar fleets.
A renewable-energy operator managing 240 distributed solar installations across three states needed to replace a sprawl of spreadsheets, vendor portals, and Slack threads with a single monitoring and forecasting platform. The constraint: their team is mostly field engineers, not software users. The interface had to be operable from a phone in poor light, sometimes wearing gloves.
We started with a week of field shadowing — actually visiting installations with their team — before drawing a single screen. The resulting platform is built around three views: a fleet overview, a single-site view, and an alert console. Everything else is collapsed behind those three. The design system is intentionally low-contrast and high-density on desktop, but switches to a glanceable card model on mobile based on viewport, not user preference.
Adoption hit 94% within six weeks of rollout. Mean time to incident detection dropped from 4.2 hours to 38 minutes. The product became part of their Series A pitch and helped close the round in Q3 2024.
